Overview
TOP

The Hanby system is a field portable method for the determination of petroleum related substances.  Accuracy, speed and simplicity are fundamental to this groundbreaking technique that was discovered in 1986.  The Hanby field test product line provides quanitative and qualitative analysis of soil and water samples in the field.

Why use Hanby products?
TOP

Hanby field products are designed to save time and money by significantly reducing the dependence on off-site laboratory analysis.  The Hanby method provides accurate and fast qualitative and quantitative results while in the field.  Hanby products enable our customers to quickly detect petroleum contaminanted zones or monitor locations to ensure continued compliance within approved guidelines.

"Five minute results on your soil or water tests minimize the time spent searching for sources or 'plumes'.  We offer huge savings because our customers do not waste time and money sending in non-detect samples to a laboratory," explains John Hanby.

Who uses Hanby products?
TOP

Environmental contractors and consultants, HazMat teams, remediation specialists, and even oil exploration geologists have been utilizing Hanby products at spill sites, underground storage tanks, pipeline leaks, remediation sites and Superfund sites.  The Hanby method has been widely used in a wide range of domestic and international industries for the detection and monitoring of petroleum related contaminates:

Environmental Consulting Exploration & Production Real Estate
Municipal Water Plants Pulp & Paper Gasoline Stations
Remediation Sugar Petrochemical

"...results with high levels of precision and accuracy," writes the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

What is the Hanby product line?
TOP

The Hanby system is a field portable method that provides rapid analyses down to parts-per-billion for aromatic compounds, including gasoline, diesel, PCB's and many others.  The procedure extracts the aromatic compounds from the sample and provides immediate colorimetric identification of the concentration and type of contaminants present.  The color of the reacted extract solution indicates the type of compound, and the intensity of the color indicates the concentration.  The results of the test compare consistently from sample to sample over a wide range of concentrations in soil, fresh water and salt water.

The Hanby product line functions as a self-contained portable laboratory in a rugged, lightweight briefcase.  Each Hanby kit has been designed to include all of the materials necessary for non-technical personnel to use in the field with ease.

Easy to use
TOP

The  Hanby product line is easy to use and provides accurate analyses in less than 5 minutes for petroleum substances in soil and water samples.  Each field kit includes simple, easy-to-use apparatus, clear written instructions, and a video tape of the procedure.  A soil or water sample is extracted, and the extract is reacted with a catalyst that emits a robust color indication, much like a household pregnancy test or a pH test for a swimming pool.

"Our test kits have consistently been voted the easiest to use and most reliable field methods that our customers have ever seen,"  John Hanby proudly states.

Color ID charts
TOP

Once a sample has been mixed with the reagents (See EASY TO USE), the result is a unique color.  The color is quickly compared to the standardized color ID chart to determine the amount of petroleum in the sample...all the way down to parts per billion (See PETROLEUM DETECTION SPECIFICATIONS).
